Peace Bonds

Section 810 Criminal Code · Peace Bond Applications & Defence

In appropriate cases, a peace bond can resolve criminal charges without a conviction. Zi Wang has negotiated peace bond resolutions in numerous assault-related matters, helping clients avoid criminal convictions where the circumstances supported that outcome.

What is a peace bond?

A peace bond is a court order under section 810 of the Criminal Code. By entering into a peace bond, you agree to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for a specified period (typically 12 months) and comply with any conditions the court imposes.

A peace bond is not a criminal conviction. In appropriate cases, the Crown may agree to withdraw criminal charges in exchange for the accused entering into a peace bond. This means no criminal record.

A peace bond is not appropriate in every case. Whether it is a viable resolution depends on the specific facts, the seriousness of the charge, and the Crown's position. Obtain legal advice about your particular circumstances.
